Spaghetti Bolognese Sauce – A Family Classic

Spaghetti Bolognese: A Family Favorite – Delicious for Kids & Adults

Prep-Time: 15 min
Cook-Time: 30-45 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1/2 yellow onion chopped

  • 1 carrot chopped

  • 1/2 tube of Tomato paste (at best 3x concentrated, 2x is fine, too)

  • 1x can tomatoes (like from Mutti or such)

  • 1-2 tsp or cubes dry vegetable (!) bouillon to taste (eg from Knorr via Amazon fresh)

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • 1 tbsp dried Herb de Provence or chopped fresh parsley and/or rosemary

UTENSILS

  • Large wooden spoon

  • Large pot

This is one of my go-to recipes and a Family Favorite! Easy to prepare, great to food-prep, and always delicious.

01

Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent (but not browned).

02

Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the meat is browned.

03

Stir in the chopped carrot and cook for a couple of minutes.

04

Add the tomato paste (use slightly more if it’s 2x concentrated). Let it roast with the meat and veggies for a few minutes, stirring frequently, until it caramelizes. This step enhances the sauce’s flavor!

05

Pour in the canned tomatoes. If using whole canned tomatoes, chop them roughly before adding. Stir well and, if the mixture is too thick, add a splash of water to reach your desired consistency.

06

Stir in the vegetable bouillon and herbes de Provence. Reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and let it simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

07

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper as needed.

08

Serve with your favorite type of pasta (cook as directed on the package), and garnish with freshly grated parmesan.
